Zebra's and Zoo's

Letter Z. How appropriate that it should be our last. I was thinking a week ahead and almost missed it! Ha!

We all buzzed like bees and found Z words. Zip, zebra, Zachary! Adelle found out zoup actually begins with an s! Hee hee!

While coloring their zoo animals, Tommy held his up with great pride, informing Haley, “Now, that’s was a REAL giraffe looks like!” And I loved Anna’s perfect excuse, “I couldn’t come last time ‘cause I had a ear confection!” Oh, how I love what these children say each day. I am especially sad that Kyree no longer calls me Mrs. A’Queer!” It was the cutest thing!

This is the time of year I mourn their leaving. I start seeing and hearing things and say to myself, “Oooh! I’m gunna miss that!” I have a teacher friend that text me, “Just three weeks left!” Astounding how fast this whole year has gone! I want to just freeze time to revel in what these children have become to me! Goodness!

And your amazing little readers keep reading and adding to their numbers daily. I am so proud of them all. Our reading deadline date will be May 9^th. We will also need all of my reading books returned by that date, as well. It has been a great ride! We have clapped and cheered and celebrated with every 5 books read. I always hate for it to end. So, so great!

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, we have been singing songs and getting a few things accomplished for that event.

It will be fabulous. The children nearly raised the roof, exploding in song yesterday. Can’t wait for everyone to see that!

Easter Egg Hunt

Letter E was everything Easter, especially eggs. We dyed some on Monday to add in our baskets; everyone dipping and stirring to reveal designs and names they had written with “invisible” crayons. So fun! The “mosaic egg” was fun to create, too, ripping and gluing to make it looked cracked, switching from color to color. “Ha, ha! I’m ready for blue-hue-hue-hue! I love blue!” Eli delightfully said. I cracked an Easter egg and peeled off the cracked shell. “This is what we want it to look like! See the cracks?” Every egg picture was a beautiful masterpiece! So bright and fun! We talked about the symbolism of the egg with the tomb and springing new life; the Easter Morn.

We had planted wheat berries weeks earlier in our baskets. The grass was so beautiful and green last week. I was so sad to see it start changing to yellow so soon, but unfortunately, plants that come to my house have a hard time living very long. I am the plant murderer, as my husband can attest! Ha ha! I was glad that the day of the hunt had finally arrived. The children had the best time hunting for 4 different colors to place in their grass. “This is the best day ever!” What great finders they were! And counters!

Our final program will be May15^th, a Wednesday. The calendar of events in your folder is in error. Splash day is the 16^th, our final day of school.

We wish everyone a wonderful Easter Day! I love the thoughts of our Savior breaking the bonds of death to save us all. “He is risen!” Are there any more glorious words? So, so grateful that He lives and loves us so! See you tomorrow!

Egg Decorating!

Nests Galore!

N…never nice, needs nothing! “Nnn-nnn!”

Everyone was naming N-words, “No!” “Not!” “Nathan!” “Nash!” and then Lizzie came up with, “Nug!” I asked, “What’s a Nug?” “He’s uh… my uncle!” “You have an Uncle Nug?”  “Yes!” I never got a chance to dig into the actual truth of that, but we all had fun with Uncle Nug’s name! Ha ha! Sorry Uncle Nug!

Nests! While I was stirring a great big tub of Rice Krispies and sticks with hot melted mallows and butter, the children were totally engaged with big smiles. Lily said, “It’s warm!” Jayden said, “It smells good!” Grant said, “It looks like Christmas!” The children had such fun building their nests. It was great. Birds, eggs, nests. Can’t believe Easter is upon us! Every year time charges on like a freight train. Hard to have it come so fast again. This year has been especially so.

I am very proud of all of our readers. Clive was so cute, “I’m gunna win the reading race because ‘slow and steady wins the race’!” Ha ha! Everyone wins if it helps them to become better readers!

Just a reminder…We will not have Show-n-Tell anymore for the rest of the year. We will use that time for songs and dancing in preparation for the Mother’s Day/Graduation Program on May 15^th. Mark your calendars. These next weeks will be busy, busy ones in an effort to get everything ready for that. We have a favorite song for past alumni to join in on, too. We invite any or all to attend. It will be a great program. We look forward to that.

X Week

Monday, for letter X, I had a blast introducing the fine art of April Fooling! I began by telling them the story of how I was tricked by my husband years ago into believing that I had won a million dollars. Then, I had fun teasing them. “Guess what? Today, we’re all going to Disneyland! April Fools! No! We’re all going for ice cream! April fools!” Ha ha! Eli said, “I can’t wait to fool my mom!” Wren said, “Can I tell my mom I am a pig?” Ha!

So, sending the kids home with red spots on their faces was a hoot! But, some got a little mixed up trying to pull it off, like Makayla, “I have the chicken pops! April 6^th!” Adelle said, “I have the chicken pox! AJ!” So fun!

Talking about words with the letter x was tricky. I said, “Hey! What about TEXT? Do you know what a text is?” Simultaneously, there was an uproar of the same sentence, “My mom texts all the time!” I asked, “Have you ever texted?” A resounding, “No!” Kinzie answered, “We’re kids!” Ha ha!

I love this stage of preschool where friendships have been cemented and the children have become very relaxed and comfortable, especially in their conversations. Clyde was building a block tower taller than himself one day. Lily was astounded and yelled, “Whoa! Holy moly, crap-a-moly!” Ha! We have loved playing, “What has changed” and “Punchinello”! Ask your kids. You might want to add that to your family games.

Speaking of being astounded, I am thrilled with the children’s progress in reading.  The book numbers are astounding! Everyone is improving in sound-blending and letter sounds, too. I love watching them learn! I love this so much.

Lion Week

Lion Week had lots of laughs. We went on a “lion hunt” every day! If you are not familiar with the chant, the repetitive line in each stanza is, “I’m not afraid!” At the end, the last line says, “…and we we’re afraid!” Nathan made us giggle, “Um…I’m actually afraid of lions!”

Our Cheetos lions were a great hit. The “yummy glue” was delicious, but sloppy and gooey. While tackling the job of spreading a blob of that fluffy glue around the outside, Eli said, “Ahhh! My lion is MESSED UP!” He was managing as well as anyone. It was just a sticky job and as usual, Eli made it fun for all of us! Oh, we laughed and laughed!  I encouraged the kids to take them home for a lion lunch. While waiting outside, Lily and Jayden inquired together, “Can we put the plate in the dishwasher?” What? No!

One of your fun sheets on Thursday is “messed up”! But we decided the quail could be touted as a “little bird” to correspond with letter L. Check it out. You’ll get it.

Great fun sheets story: While telling the kids the folly of not writing their name on their papers, I said, “Your kindergarten teacher might plunk it right into the garbage.” And I dropped it in a nearby garbage can. A bit later, Clive randomly shouted, “Paper is magic!” What? “Look at the fun sheet right next to you. It floated out of the garbage can…magically!” Clive! Are you magic? “No. Smith is!” Oh, my gosh! I laughed and laughed. Sneaky boys! Smith cracks himself up regularly, along with the rest of us. Too funny!

Ask your child about Hubert the lion. It was a fun story we read each day and finally finished on Thursday. We made a mane for Hubert. Roar!

Don’t forget 26 valentines for the 14th. We hope your child is getting some great name writing practice writing each one!

Hats! Horses! Holsters!

Hats! Holsters! Horses! Ha, ha! We had one heck of an H Week! We painted our shooters on Monday. Wednesday, Patches, the pony, did not disappoint, sweet as ever, pulling us around the cul-de-sac in that cute little cart. Such fun! Miss Sarah got pictures of all the children in their cute western attire as we loaded each one into the cart. “Go, Patches, go!” we yelled! Thursday, we got to meet our stick horses for the first time, after coloring them before the Christmas break. Some named their horses.

Adelle-Scarletta, Avery-White Fang! Cannon-Super Star, Clyde-Spike, Ephraim-Lightening, Evelyn-Princess Peach, Jayden-Arla, Juliette, Mila-Rosy, Haley, Kaylee, Madalyn, Makayla, Connor-Patches. Kinzie, Anna-Wonder Woman, Leo, Rylee, Grant- Peaches, Lily-Daisy, Ryan, Big Red, Tommy-Honey, Tyson, Clive-Batman, Wren- Princess Bunny!

Eli-Pikachu,  Ellie-Snowflake Speedy, Eve-Unie, Grace-Jingle Bells, Graham-Dashing Red, Hadley-Thunder, Hattie-Starla, Kyree-Cotton Candy, Leisel-Olivia, Nash-Apples, Nathan-Nathan Gallopy, Orlando-Jeckle Worm, Ruby-Frisco, Sadie-Candy Cane, Sherry-Elsa, Smith-Dash, and Tenley-Diamond.

We had a great trail ride and then, we raced to see who had the fastest horse in the Morning Class. White Fang and Daisy were each winners in the filly’s first races. The crowd cheered for their favorites! “Go, White Fang! “Go, Daisy!” It was Daisy all the way! The stud winners raced, “Go Big Red! “Go, Honey!” “Go, Super Star and Big Spike! Super Star wins! Ahhh! Then, Daisy raced the mighty Super Star. Such a thrilling race! But it was Super Star, that claimed the coveted winner’s circle by four lengths for the fastest Morning Class horse!

Our Afternoon filly winners were set at the starting gate. The crowd was going wild! “Go Olivia!” “Go Thunder!”  “You can do it, Snowflake Speedy!” It was Thunder, for the win, by at least 6 lengths! Then, the stud winners, “Go, Batman! “Go, Dashing Red!” “Go, Apples! They took their places at the starting gate, nostrils flaring! On your mark, “GO!” Barreling down the track, but just before the finish line, Batman hit hard, spilling Clive to the ground! Ooooh! Tough break! It was Apples for the win! “Hurray, Apples!” And then, Thunder and Apples at the gate! Everyone cheered! “Go, Apples! “Go, Thunder!” It was Apples, by a nose! Ahhh! What a day!

We brought our tired horses in to rest and loaded our pistols for the big shootout at the OK corral! I think I managed to get a shot off in everyone’s direction before getting pelted to death! Ahhhhh! Such fun! Thanks to Miss Sarah for capturing this all on film.  Much thanks to my wonderful sisters that helped me finish sewing up the horses and Colleen, for bringing her great pony!

We put an extra bag of ammo in your child’s backpack. Happy shooting!

No school on Monday, in honor of Civil Rights Day. See you on Wednesday, partner! Yee Haw!
