Cannon: They were pilgrims.
Graham: The king told them what to do.
Eli: They had to go to a new place!
Eve: They didn’t want the king to tell them what to do.
Eli: They say, “No! I don’t want to!”
Lily: They got on a boat because they wanted to do their own stuff.
Cannon: It was the Sunflower! I mean, the Mayflower!
Adelle: It was a boat that would hold a lot of people…everyone!
Ellie: The Mayflower was bigger than a house.
Makayla: There were no houses!
Clyde: They made houses with wood.
Smith: No stores!
Kyree: No houses there!
Ruby: No food there!
Leisel: They chopped down trees.
Ben: No house.
Nathan: They built a house.
Ellie: And they made hospitals, too!
Mrs. McClure: Think so?
Ellie: Yah, ‘cause people were sick on the Mayflower and some of the people died.
Stella: House.
Lily: The pilgrims didn’t know how to make plants grow.
Kaylee: They were so hungry!
Lily: The Indians were watching them.
Cannon: They put fish in the seeds!
Makayla: Rain can happen.
Clive: They planted pomegranates!
Charlotte: Corn!
Graham: The Indians helped them plant food.
Cannon: The corn started to grow.
Adelle: They had so much food!
Sherry: They wanted to share.
Cannon: The 99 braves came.
Lily: And the chief made 100 Indians!
Eli: I’m the bravest boy you’ve ever seen!
Mrs. McClure: Then, what happened?
Grant: Let’s just read it! COME ON!
Sadie: They had a feast.
Hadley: It was a Thanksgiving.
Eve: They prayed.
Graham: It was a feast because of the Indians.
Grant: They put the turkey in jail.
Ben: Someone shot it.
Clive: You did it wrong! Not in Jail!
Grace: They shot the turkeys.
Ben: It was the Indians.
Leisel: They shoot-ted the turkeys.
Cannon: They had a lot of food and they were happy.
Adelle: We have Thanksgiving to make the world happy and fun.
While donning their costumes:
Kinzie: (Jumping up and down) This is the best day ever!
Eli broke out in song, “I get to be an Indian! Yah, yah, yah, yah!
(Filling her plate) Avery: This is the best feast ever!
So fun.
Best line of the week by Cannon:
Mrs. McClure smells pretty. I smelled her.
With Halloween in full swing, we have reveled in all of the fun songs. I hope you are getting a little piece of them at home. They are so fun…and scary! Ahhhh!
Of course, all of this scary fun can not go on without a little truth talk about floating ghosts that say, “Boo” and witches on brooms as being make-believe “just for fun!” During our discussion, Adelle piped up, “But giraffes are real!” Thank goodness I didn’t shatter her dreams about giraffes! Ha!
We practiced our #6 poem and spelled and twirled in our whites. Learning letter Gg was great, knowing how afraid he is of goblins and ghosts! Golly! Please help your child review these letters in our book and the upcoming ones on our calendar. I can tell from the children’s grasp of these letter-sound concepts in class, which ones are taking advantage of this. It helps so much.
We found lots of Gg words. I laughed out loud when Smith suggested, “Gross!” “Yes! That’s a good one, but it’s gross!” Ha!
We had fun making with our scary projects. “You can hang this up and scare everyone! Bwah-ha ha ha!” And we examined our own collar bones, our fingers and ribs as we spoke about skeletons. I thought their Q-tip masterpieces were adorable!
We sure love your kids.

We sailed the ocean blue! Well, at least my little plastic pool in the backyard was blue! “How would you like to sail them in water?” That was received with a resounding squeal! “Whoa! It floats!” “I blew it across the water!” “Mine is upside-down!” “Mine was the fastest!” “Can we do this in our tubs?” So fun!
We also talked about sailors. “Did you know we wouldn’t be able to have a tuna fish sandwich without sailors.” Adelle asked, “Could mine be chicken?” Ha!
All those “triangle shark-heads” looked adorable, especially while singing the Baby Shark song. So fun! Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo! I heard that Eli said it best, when greeting his mom, “I’m gunna eat you up! Rrrrawh!” I love that boy’s obedient and enthusiastic executions! We had a lot of hungry sharks that day!

Red Week - The Little Red Hen
Red Week. We sang and twirled in our red clothes. We learned our #1 poem, red rectangles! We made hen hats.
Then…we touched the wheat. We tasted the wheat. It was hard. We ground the wheat. It was loud. It turned into flour.
“Who will help me make the bread?” “Me!” “Me!” And they did! They scooped in flour. It was gooey.
“Who will help me bake the bread?” “Me!” “Me!” And they did. They shaped their blobs and laid it in pans.
“Who will help me eat the bread?” And they did. We sliced some up. “I want butter! I’m a butter girl!” said Ellie. It was good! Tenley said, “I like everything there is on bread!” Yummmm! “I want more!” “Me, too!” “And, me!”
“Who will take their bread home?” “Me!” “Me!” And they did!
Then, all the little red hens gathered up their things; donned their hen hats and grabbed their loaves. Soooo cute!
Some hens just couldn’t wait to start pecking! “It looks like this little hen has been pecking her bread already, ha ha!” laughed Makayla’s mom. And, the pecking was contagious! Of course! They’re chickens! Bawk! Bawk!
Such a fun day! We are loving the chance to get to know one another. Haley said, “Mrs. McClure, I know I am your best friend!” So darling! It takes time to win hearts. We are finally ready to jump into colors and numbers and soon letters. To quote one of my favorite lines in a favorite book, “that I may win their hearts… that I may lead them to believe in my words.” A true principle! Now, the real learning begins!
